Our Mission
"Promoting compliance with City ordinances in order to preserve the
quality of life for citizens, enhance the appearance of neighborhoods
and sustain the tax base."
Organization of the Office
The Office of Code Compliance consists of Administrative Staff and Field Staff.
Code Compliance Officers are assigned to geographic zones within the City and are
responsible to investigate complaints and obtain compliance within their zone.
When an issue is identified, Officers partner with other departments in a holistic
approach and utilize all available resources to resolve the issue.
Administrative Staff receive complaint information from the public and process
case records generated by officers in the field. Special Magistrates, who are licensed
attorneys, adjudicate cases that fail to come into voluntary compliance.
FY 2009 Compliance Activity
- Code Compliance Officers investigated approximately 1,621 complaints.
- Officers initiated over 19,000 additional cases while on routine patrol.
- On average, about 50% of cases complied within 30 days of being initiated.
- About 95% of all cases either complied, or entered into a Stipulated Agreement
to comply.
- Over 8,000 gallons of free paint were distributed to residents through the
Operation Paintbrush program.
- Approximately $108,000.00 in case processing costs assessed to violators.
Programs Offered
The Code Compliance Division distributes free paint to residents. Participants are
eligible to receive up to fifteen gallons of paint. Well over 50,000 gallons of paint
have been distributed since inception of the program. For additional information about
Operation Paintbrush, contact Bruce Whalen at (954) 921-3682.
