About the Community Oriented Policing Division's
Beach Patrol:

The Beach Unit consists of six officers permanently assigned to the Beach and Broadwalk area. They work closely with business owners and residents in the area in order to address the concerns of the community. The officers perform their duties on bicycle, All Terrain Vehicles, a unique electric vehicle, as well as the traditional patrol vehicle when necessary.

The Broadwalk is a paved, asphalt surface used by pedestrians, bicyclists, and rollerbladers and enjoyed by millions of locals and tourists annually. The Broadwalk Officers strive to create a safe environment for residents, merchants, and tourists alike.

Below are some of the most commonly misunderstood beach ordinances. These ordinances have been established in order to preserve and enhance the cleanliness & beauty of the Hollywood Beach & Broadwalk area.

Beach/Broadwalk Ordinances:
In order for everyone to enjoy the beach, there are a few ordinances which have been enacted by the City Commission in order to accommodate numerous activities. Below is a listing of a few of the more high profile beach ordinances which may affect your activities. This is not a complete listing of all beach ordinances or city wide ordinances. You can access a listing of all City of Hollywood Ordinances here http://www.amlegal.com/hollywood_fl/.

Alcohol:
With the exception of special events, alcohol of any type is not permitted on the Beach or Broadwalk area. Please note that glass containers of any type are also not permitted on the Beach or Broadwalk area.

Animals:
For reasons of public health and safety, animals or pets of any kind are not allowed on the Beach or Broadwalk area.  Exceptions to this are certified service animals, which are welcomed

Bicycling:
Bicyclists are permitted on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk only within the provided bicycle lane. Bicycles are not to operate at excessive speeds, must stay within the bicycle lane and must yield to pedestrians, even if the pedestrian is in the bicycling lane.

Additionally, to enhance the safety and well being of those enjoying the beach, bicycle time restrictions were conceived in order to coincide with our peak tourist season. Currently, there is no time restriction on bicycling anywhere north of Hayes Street. However, when bicycling south of Hayes Street, please refer to the dates and times listed below:

Off-season (April 16-December 15) - Permitted any time

Peak-season (December 16-April 15) - Permitted from 7:00am until 10:00am and from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

Fireworks:
In accordance with Hollywood Municipal Ordinances, Fireworks of any type are currently not permitted on the Beach or Broadwalk area. This includes sparklers, smoke producing devices and all other fireworks designated in Florida State Law as contraband.

Roller skating / In-Line Skating:
Currently there are no restrictions on rollerblading or roller-skating anywhere north of Hayes Street. However, for the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, neither is permitted anywhere south of Hayes Street on the Broadwalk. Hayes Street is located three blocks north of Johnson Street.

Skateboarding:
Skateboarding is not permitted on the Broadwalk at this time.

Miscellaneous:
No Vehicles are permitted on the Beach or Broadwalk. Fires may not be built or maintained on the Beach or Broadwalk. Spear fishing is not permitted off of the beach.

The Beach Safety / Lifeguard Division is there for the protection of the public, please follow their directions with regards to safe swimming distance, conditions, and all other beach / ocean related ordinances.
