CRIME

WATCH

Washington Park Area
Neighborhood Crime Watch Coordinator Alvin Day.

Washington Park boundaries extend from Pembroke Road to Washington Street and from S. 52nd Avenue to State Road 441.

Originally one of Hollywood's smallest communities, Washington Park was annexed by the City of Hollywood in 1963.

Washington Park is a decent, law abiding community, though it has had its problems with crime, predominantly street level drug activities.  The one-block area on Wiley Street between 56th and 57th Avenues has been responsible for most of the negative publicity received by Washington Park.

In November 1998, Washington Park's Crime Watch members became fed up with the crime related deterioration of their community and requested a meeting with Hollywood's City Manager and Police Chief to address their concerns.

The results of the eventful meeting served to enhance and define the role of our Police Department as well as the members of Crime Watch.  Also realized from that meeting was a meaningful dialogue between the Police Department and neighborhood residents that was the catalyst for the reestablishment of the Crime Suppression Unit.

If you would like more information, please contact the Public Affairs Unit of the Hollywood Police Department at 954-967-4314.
