The Crime Suppression Unit specializes in problem solving in neighborhoods where normal patrol response is sometimes restrained by the mere volume of calls for service or the length of time needed to resolve the problem.  The Crime Suppression Unit conducts targeted and mission oriented police activities.

The Crime Suppression Unit is comprised of two squads of dedicated and highly motivated Officers whose primary responsibility is to combat street level crimes, such as: prostitution and related vice crimes, narcotics, robberies, burglaries, and violations that reduce the "quality of life" for a neighborhood.

Crime Suppression Officers frequently assume undercover identities to accomplish their goals and work closely with citizens and confidential informants to resolve difficult problems.  They are routinely called upon to adapt their schedules, appearance, and tactics as needed, often on very short notice.  The myriad of assignments and constantly changing nature of work makes an assignment to the Crime Suppression Unit a highly sought after duty, and is an example of the Hollywood Police Department's effort to make the most efficient use of available resources.

The Effects of Drugs and Prostitution over time

This is a series of arrest photographs of the same individual taken over the course of 10 years. Some of the photos were taken at closer time intervals than others. Click on any of the photos to enlarge them and see the date it was taken. Click on the first photo (far left) to go through the whole series.  Note the radical difference between photos 6 & 7, taken less than 2 years apart. Unfortunately, we do not have any photos prior to the first arrest to see the initial changes.   Note:  All photographs are arrest booking photographs, and as such are public record.   UPDATE      The Hollywood Police Department has received numerous inquiries and comments from around the world concerning the woman in the above photographs.  The last photograph in this series was taken over 18 years ago.  As of this date, the women would be 64 years old..  The woman's last recorded local arrest was in 1989.  While we do not know her current fate, the Hollywood Police Department hopes that she has found better fortune during the past 18 years.                                                                                                                                                                               Police Webmaster   02/13/2007
