Our Fleet:
The Officers of the Hollywood Police Department
are assigned take home vehicles. As a result of the
take home program, more Police vehicles are on the streets of Hollywood.
Another benefit is the improved condition and appearance of the vehicles.
The Officers treat the vehicles as if they were their own, which keeps
all of the vehicles in premium condition and gives the entire fleet a more
professional look.
The Fleet Services Unit is responsible
for the condition, maintenance, and upgrading of our Department's vast
vehicle fleet. The fleet has 347 different vehicles, which include
marked and unmarked Automobiles, Sport Utility Vehicles, Trucks, Jeeps,
Boats, Personal Watercraft, Bicycles,
Motorcycles, Vans, and several other vehicles which the Department utilizes
for special events on a temporary basis.
Currently being utilized as marked patrol
units are the Ford Crown Victoria and Chevy Caprice.
Other Units within the Department utilize Jeep Cherokees, Jeep Wranglers,
Ford Expeditions, Ford Taurus, and Chevy Luminas. The Department also has a variety of unmarked
vehicles for use in undercover operations, however, for obvious reasons
they will not be described here.
Alternative
Energy:
The City of Hollywood is concerned about
the future, and we have set our sites on alternative energy sources.
The City's civilian fleet is now operating on a majority of CNG (compressed natural gas)
powered vehicles. The Police Department also has an electric vehicle for
special events. Currently, Police patrol vehicles still operate on
gasoline.
