The Hollywood Police Honor Guard is designed to provide the Department with a specially trained ceremonial team to render honors, preserve tradition, stimulate Esprit-de-corps and instill pride.

The Honor Guard accomplishes this by providing guidance and uniformity in the conduct of ceremonies and by establishing a specific sequence of events during those ceremonies. The unit also provides a highly trained, specially uniformed group of motivated Officers to perform the particulars of those ceremonies.

HISTORY & DUTIES

In 1986, after several years as a small group of volunteers, the unit was formally established, under the guidance of Master Police Office Paul Dungan, who is now retired. The Unit is presently commanded by Lieutenant Manny Marino. Captain Rode and Lieutenant Diana Pereira-Pabon administer the training, assignments and event coordination. The Police Honor Guard is attached to the Department’s Public Affairs Unit and consists of 25 sworn Officers that are broken down in smaller, cross trained, units to provide the Police Department with a:

  • Commander
  • Casket Team
  • Color Team
  • Drill Team
  • Flag Team
  • Rifle Team
  • Support Team

RIFLE TEAM:  Used in funerals and memorial ceremonies to provide the traditional “Three Rifle Volley” rifle salute. Additionally they provide the Color Guards for the Flag Team.

The Hollywood Police Honor Guard is a very active unit filling 40 to 60 ceremony requests annually.

This training session is provided at no cost to the agency and is attended by sworn Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters and Military Personnel from every level of Law Enforcement in Broward County. In addition the unit is an active contributing member of the Broward County Multi-Agency Police Honor Guard Association.
