About Hollywood:
Hollywood, Florida, the "Diamond of the Gold Coast," was incorporated
on November 28, 1925. The new "City" was approximately 640 acres
and the first Police Department employed 10 Police Officers. Today,
the second largest City in Broward County, Hollywood covers 28 square miles.
The City that was founded by Joseph Young as a tourist
destination,
has maintained that image through the years. Our year round population of
143,000 residents increases to 253,000 during the winter months. In addition to
the population infusion, we serve Port Everglades; one of the largest deep water
ports in the United States, have 6 miles of beach front, and over 50 parks.

The Police Department employs 337
Police Officers and 263 civilian
support personnel. Our Department handles an average of 139,000 incidents and calls for
police service a year. To maintain the highest level of efficiency,
we incorporate state of the art equipment with on-going innovative in-house
training programs.

Officer completes their 22 years of service and some choose to remain 8

Candidates for Police Officer are chosen from a competitive field of applicants based on
test scores, assessments, and a rigorous background investigation.
Successful applicants attend a demanding 22 week Police Academy held at the
Institute of Public Safety at Broward Community College.
Hollywood P.D. is large enough for a great variety of opportunities and small
enough for a family feeling.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at time of State Certification.
- Must be a Citizen of the United States at the time of application.
- Must be a high school graduate from an accredited high school or have a GED.
- Must have the ability to possess a valid Florida Driver's License by time of employment.
- Must be of good moral character, have no felony convictions and committed no
incidents of violence.
- Military discharge must not have been dishonorable.

The State of Florida is one of the few states that has NO State Income Tax
Salary
Range:
$42,517-$66,567
This is an Officer's salary range. The Hollywood Police Department is large enough to provide
many promotional opportunities of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Assistant
Chief and Chief, each of which has its own salary range above an Officer salary.
Additional benefits for Special Assignments:

Detectives - 5% above base rate

Motorcycle Officers - 5% above base rate

Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Detectives - 5% above base rate

Officer assigned to the afternoon shift - 2.5% above base rate

Officer assigned to the midnight shift - 5% above base rate
