ASPIRA:
Dedicated to Youth Prevention and Treatment. It provides academic guidance and drug prevention. Service includes youth mentoring, tutoring and Hispanic pride issues.

B-TIP:
Is a program run by the State Attorney's Office to combat truancy. The program mainly deals with compliance from parents in getting their children to attend school. Another component involves truancy sweeps by police.

BOYS/GIRLS CLUB:
T
he purpose of the club is to help young people ages 7-17 improve their lives by building self-esteem and developing values and skills during their critical period of growth. Services and programs provided focus on everything from education, social recreation, health and physical education, to leadership and citizenship development, cultural enrichment, and personal adjustment with one-on-one counseling. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to assure and to enhance the quality of life for children as participating members of a diverse urban society.  The club hosts a teen pregnancy group, RBI baseball tournament and computer lab, as well as other programs.
The Boys and Girls Club is open from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

CIP: (Critical Incident Plan)
Is a comprehensive security plan designed by the Hollywood Police Department for every public school in the City. School Resource Officers also prepare school staff for emergencies and suspect profiles.

FAMILIES THAT CARE, GUIDING GOOD CHOICES:

GLASS HOUSE:   
This program is administered through the Henderson Clinic and deals with domestic violence issues.

GREAT:
Gang Resistance Education and Training. A comprehensive 13 lesson curriculum taught by specially trained Police Officers to every 7th grader in the public middle schools. www.great-online.org

HISPANIC UNITY OF FLORIDA, INC.
A non-profit organization service for all Broward County residents. The primary purpose is to promote self-sufficiency and adaptation of immigrants into their new culture. This organization is open to everyone.

LEGAL AID SERVICE OF BROWARD:
Provides free legal assistance to income-eligible individuals in Broward County. Services provided are domestic violence, children's advocacy project, family law, public benefits, landlord tenant problems, housing, elderly/senior citizen law project, elderly services, unemployment benefits and other projects.

MEMORIAL COMMUNITY YOUTH SERVICE:
In partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Broward County Schools and the State Attorney's Office, this program provides no cost behavioral health services to youths (ages 6-18), and their families residing in Broward County.

PAL:  (Police Athletic League) 
Serves children ages 9-18 in a variety of athletic and recreational activities. Other programs in the organization encompass youth development, such as an afternoon drop-out prevention and teen center.

PARENTS OF MURDERED CHILDREN:
POMC is the only national self help organization to offer support and information about surviving the loss of a loved one. Meetings for the Tri-County area are held on the second Tuesday of every month at the Hollywood Police Department, 3250 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood.

PEER COUNSELING:
Is a program administered at individual public schools where students are specially trained in strategies to improve at-risk student's grades and conflict resolution.

POLICE EXPLORERS:  The program is administered by the Hollywood Police Family Services Section. The Explorers is a character building organization that expose students to the law enforcement arena.

PRIDE:
Provides drug abuse awareness programs and alternative recreational programs for family and youths. Partially funded by Hollywood Police.

PROP:  (Police Referral Outreach Program) 
A joint program between the Hollywood Police and the Starting Place. Referrals from Police Officers are handled by a counselor who makes contact with the family and child within 72hrs.

SADD:   
Students Against Destructive Decisions is a nationwide organization dedicated  to preventing students from drinking and driving. Chapters are located at all High Schools and are supervised by a teacher.

STARS (Steering Teens Toward Academic Rewards and Success):  
A program administered by the school board that is designed to identify students at risk of dropping out and providing them with tutorial help. This program is closely affiliated with the Youth Mentoring Program.

STUDENT CRIME STOPPERS: 
Students are encouraged to anonymously report any crime via a TIPS phone line and can receive a reward up to $100 for information leading to an arrest. A code number is given when you call.

TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN:
Caring adult volunteers with specialized training by the Broward School Board, helps deserving children achieve academic and civic awareness. Low income children in 7th grade or higher that are academically motivated and from challenging backgrounds.

TEEN COURT:  
This program is designed for 1st and 2nd time offenders of minor violations of the law that admit guilt. The program conducts hearings at the Main and Satellite Courthouses in Broward County. The arresting officer refers the offender.

YMCA is a family center which offers health and wellness programs, swim lessons, instructional dance, a variety of camps during school breaks, childcare, gymnastics, and a variety of family activities and youth sports.

CLASSROOM TRAINING:
Also included in the SAVI Initiative is a teaching curriculum that the School Resource Officers Utilize depending on the individual needs of their school. Subject matters include:

  • Drug awareness and avoidance
  • Conflict resolution
  • Human Diversity
  • Holocaust training
  • Weapons awareness
  • Law enforcement awareness
  • Civic responsibility
  • Gang reduction training
  • Internet Safety

All of these subject matters have lesson plans approved by the school board and can be adapted to different grade levels. This library of books and video is available to all School Resource Officers on a "as needed basis".
