Major Healey, a native of the Boston, Massachusetts area, began
his career with the Hollywood Police Department as a Police Officer in
May of 1985. Major Healey was assigned to the Patrol Division and to
the Street Crimes Unit.
In March of 1994, Major Healey was promoted to the rank of Sergeant,
supervising Squads in the Patrol Division, Community Policing Unit, South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit and the Field Force Team.
In May of 2000, Major Healey was promoted to Lieutenant and managed
Units in the C.O.P. Patrol Division, Special Operations Division
(Traffic Enforcement, Traffic Homicide, Marine Unit, Beach and
Downtown Units and Special Events) as well as the Criminal
Investigations Division (Robbery, Homicide, Domestic Violence, Child
and Elderly Exploitation and Victim Advocates). Major Healey also
managed the Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Crisis Negotiation
Team.
Major Healey was promoted to Captain
in 2003 and managed the implementation of the Department's $4 million
Technology Initiative, funded via General Obligation Bond funds.
With the conclusion of the Project, the Hollywood Police Department is
now viewed as a regional leader for providing Technological
capabilities to its members. Major Healey was also assigned as the
Records Manager and wrote and administered grants. Major Healey
was also as the Director of the South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit
and commander of the Vice, Intelligence & Narcotics Unit and the Crime
Suppression Team. Major Healey was promoted to the rank of
Police Major in August of 2008 and is currently assigned to the
Professional Standards Section, which includes Internal Affairs, the
Accreditation Unit, Personnel and Training and the Timekeeper.
Major Healey is a graduate of the 51st session of the Command
Officers Development Course at the Southern Police Institute and holds
a Master of Science degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Criminal Justice, both from St. Thomas University.
Major Healey has received numerous awards including Police Officer
of the Month, Community Involvement, Administrative Excellence and the
United States Attorney's Office Outstanding Law Enforcement Law
Enforcement Officer Award.
