A graduate from
Hollywood Hills High School, Roni Mangan joined the Hollywood Police
Department in 1979 as a Police-Aide Dispatcher. In 1981 she was
promoted to Police Officer and served in Road Patrol and Staff
Inspections.
Promoted to Sergeant in 1996, she held supervisory assignments in Road
Patrol and the Public Affairs Section. Assignments continued in Public
Affairs and Road Patrol after promotion to Lieutenant in 2000.
In 2003, she was
promoted to Captain overseeing the Investigative Services Section,
including Robbery, Homicide, Burglary, Vehicle Crimes, Economic
Crimes, Family Services, Domestic Violence, Crime Scene
Investigations, Victim Advocates, and the Crisis Negotiations
Team. She subsequently was assigned to the Professional Standards
Section and the Quartermaster Section. In November of 2007, she became
the Acting Major of the Support Services Division, a position that was
made permanent in March of 2008.
A “Dean’s Scholar” graduate of the Administrative Officers Course from
the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky; and in 2001,
she earned her Master’s Degree in Management, specializing in Public
Administration, from St. Thomas University and a graduate of the 3rd
Florida Department of Law Enforcement “Executive Leadership Seminar.”
Since 1999, Major Mangan has been an elected member of the Board of
Directors for the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, a graduate
and continued facilitator for the Chamber’s “Leadership Hollywood
XXIV” program; she is also an Advisory Board Member for the Women’s
Resource Institute at Nova Southeastern University.
Roni Mangan was the first Police employee awarded the City of
Hollywood’s Diamond Service Award, has earned two Lifesaving Awards,
the Chiefs Special Recognition Award, six Administrative Excellence
Awards, four Community Involvement Awards, Community Oriented/Problem
Solving Award, six Unit Citations, the Chamber’s Courage in Leadership
and 2002 “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” Awards.
